GM Says Fuel-Cell Vehicles Will Be Available in 2011

General Motors (GM) has already announced that by 2011, it will start delivering hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles to its ordinary consumers in GM dealerships.

This plan is by far, the most ambitious one when it comes to producing fuel-cell vehicles that will be introduced to the mainstream.

Larry Burns, GM vice president in charge of research and development says, GM is working as hard and fast as we can for competitive reasons, rather than as pure research on a promising technology.” Burns also added that he is paranoid enough to conclude that GM’s rivals are running on the same timeline as they are.

Hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles are famous for producing water vapor as exhaust instead of the harmful exhaust gases that can cause great damage to the environment. Moreover, these fuel-cell vehicles are proven to be better when it comes to fuel economy since they can run twice as far as gas-powered vehicles on the same amount of energy.

In response to the reports that Honda is going to release 100 of its 2008 FCX regular-production fuel-cell in the U.S. next year, Larry Burns says that GM can only promise 2011 as its earliest timeframe for releasing its fuel-cell vehicles. He also said that some constraints may even delay this plan like the failure of energy companies to provide the needed additional hydrogen stations to be built in Los Angeles.
